After Brandy signed her first recording contract with Atlantic Records in 1993 at the age of 14 , she began to work with producers Keith Crouch and Darryl Williams on her self-titled debut album. While Crouch contributed most of the songs, wrote Rochad Holiday, Curtis Wilson and Kipper Jones, among others. Norwood himself wrote three songs ( I Dedicate trilogy). In addition, Yo Yo , Queen Latifah , Wanyá Morris , Soulshock & Karlinnd and MC Lyte helped her for various remixes. Robin Thicke , who was still unknown at the time, is the background voice for the majority of the songs.

Publication and criticism

Brandy was nominated for two Grammys ( Best Rap Performance by a Group , Best Female R&B Performance ). The All Music Guide describes the album as cool and crispy, and her voice is compared to that of Janet Jackson and Mary J. Blige . There were also awards such as the Billboard Music Award , MTV Video Music Award and the Lady of Soul Train Award. The record went straight to the top 20 on the US Billboard charts and was awarded four platinum awards. While the album was a success in the USA and Australia, the long player only entered Germany at number 86.
