Best Friend is an R&B / Pop song by the American singer Brandy .

The song was written by Keith Crouch and Glenn McKinney and produced by songwriter Crouch for the self-titled debut album by singer Brandy . On June 27, 1995 , the title was released as the third single from the album. The song was also the soundtrack of the sitcom Moesha , in which it was played in the episode "My Best Friend", the second episode of the first season. Furthermore, the song is a dedication to her "best friend" and brother Ray J .

Music video

The music video was directed by Matthew Rolston and filmed videos for Madonna and Lenny Kravitz , among others . The simple video is partly black and white and partly in color and shows Brandy and her dance troupe dancing a choreography in front of a garage.

Charts

The song was a moderate chart hit and with 34th place in the US and 11th in New Zealand did not build on the great successes of the previous singles I Wanna Be Down and Baby . In New Zealand the track became a surprise hit, because one week after it first entered the New Zealand top 50 at number 48, the song left the same list again to return a week later and from then on steadily increasing in sales until shortly before the top ten . The song spent a total of ten weeks in the local charts. In the US R&B charts it was enough for a top ten hit at the highest position 7, where the song was also placed in the top 100 for twenty weeks. The song was also a big club hit and reached number 4 in the US dance charts.
