Moesha is an American sitcom produced for UPN and broadcast from 1996 to 2001. The first four seasons of the series were shown on German-speaking television on sky , RTL and RTL II .
content
Moesha is a 15-year-old girl whose life changes suddenly when her father Frank introduces her to his new wife Dee. Actually, Dee Moesha and her younger brother Myles just want to be a good stepmother and friend, but that's where the problems start. Dee's principles limit Moesha's adolescent desire for freedom, and she doesn't put up with that. Moesha feels reset.
However, over time, she realizes that her stepmother is a wonderful woman who takes care of the young girl and her family. Moesha deal with typical teenage worries and problems. She falls madly in love, experiences her first big disappointment and occasionally carries out small jealousies with her best friend Kim, who was later replaced by Niecy.
Whereby one can speak of rather trivial topics at the beginning, at the end of the series this changes strongly towards dramedy and includes, among other things, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, racial conflicts, premarital sex and death. This is how Myles was kidnapped in the last episode. It also came out that the supposed acquaintance Dorian is Frank's son.
success
In America, the broadcaster CBS was supposed to take over the series, but canceled it at short notice. So instead of 1995, the series was only broadcast in 1996, taken over by UPN.
The so-called " Black Sitcom" (in English : "Black Sitcom") was a huge success in the US and the most successful series ever to run on UPN. It is often compared to the legendary Bill Cosby Show as it offers a humorous glimpse into modern family life in the 90s.
Moesha shares a series universe with Clueless - The Chaos Clique and The Parkers . In episode 45 ( Endless Horror ) of Clueless , Amber ( Elisa Donovan ) calls Moesha's name as she searches for Murray ( Donald Faison ) and Sean ( Sean Holland ) with Cher ( Rachel Blanchard ) and Dionne ( Stacey Dash ) . Finally, in episode 60 ( women's choice ), Lamont Bentley and Shar Jackson appear in their roles from Moesha . The Parkers is a Moesha spin-off that involves Kim Parker and her family. Some characters appeared mutually as guests in both series.
Since brandy only made its breakthrough in Germany in 1998 , it was decided not to air Moesha until the end of the same year. The series ran every Saturday at around 12:40 p.m. in the sitcom block Willkommen bei HOME on RTL . Although only 38 episodes were planned, due to the great success of the series 61 more episodes were broadcast in Germany. Moesha is currently premiering in Germany .
In addition to the good ratings, Moesha received numerous awards such as the Image Award .
