It All Belongs to Me ( Engl. For all this here's mine ) is a R & B -Song the US singers Brandy and Monica . The duet was released on February 6, 2012 as the third single from Monica's sixth studio album New Life and the first single from Brandy's sixth album, which was previously unnamed.
background
The two interpreters recorded a duet back in 1998. The song The Boy Is Mine became a duet at the time, which was the longest one on the Billboard Hot 100 list and was one of the biggest hits of the 1990s . After the duet, apart from a joint appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards in September of the same year, the two singers went their separate ways musically until they celebrated the ten-year anniversary of the song in 2008 and for the purpose of promoting each of the artists' fifth albums, Human by Brandy and Still Standing by Monica, performed live together. From then on, a second duet was often discussed with both musicians in various interviews. In April 2010, for example, Monica mentioned a possible ballad with brandy, produced by Polow da Don . At the end of 2011, Brandy signed a new contract with RCA Records . A few days later it was announced that the label J Records was fully integrated into RCA. Thus, both singers were signed to the same music label for the first time . Accordingly, after the two previous singles Anything (To Find You) and Until It's Gone had failed, the release of Monica's album was postponed from November to April to make time for the new collaboration with her colleague Brandy . It had previously announced that it would soon release a production written by Sean Garrett before Christmas , but postponed it to devote itself to the duet. In January 2012 a press release was issued for the first time, on which the duet It All Belongs to Me was announced. The producer Rico Love wrote and produced the mid-tempo number. On February 6, 2012 the title celebrated its world premiere on the radio station V-103 . The download will be published on February 14, 2012.
composition
Rhythmically, the song is a mid- tempo number. Producer Rico Love backed the track with " Beatles- sounding guitars". Love classified the song stylistically as a “very soulful contemporary R&B song with influences from pop ”. In terms of content, the song describes the end of a love affair. According to Love, the song continues where The Boy Is Mine ended. The protagonist throws her ex-boyfriend out of her house and lets him understand that "the clothes, the cars, the rings and also the MacBook , [...] simply everything" belongs to her.
"I wanted to make sure I made it a classic R&B record, but I definitely wanted to make sure that it had enough appeal to cross over and become a Top 40 record."
"I wanted to make sure I was doing a typical R&B number, but I [also] wanted to make sure there was enough crossover appeal for the song to be a Top 40 hit [on the Billboard Hot 100 ]"
Live performances
The first live performance was scheduled for February 11th at Clive Davis ' Pre- Grammy Gala. However, due to the death of Whitney Houston on the same day, this gig was canceled at short notice. On February 16, the actual first live appearance at the Tonight Show with Jay Leno followed . Further appearances on the shows Good Morning America and The View were announced for April 10 and April 11 .
Music video
The music video will be directed by Chris Robinson , who has directed Brandy's Full Moon and Monica's Everything to Me . The video celebrated its world premiere on March 5th. Brandy compared the plot of the video to that of the feature films Thelma & Louise and Waiting for Mr. Right .
