Marco Paulo Matias (born June 17, 1975 in Solingen ) is a singer who became known in Germany for the casting show Die deutsche Demokratie in 2003.

Live and act

Marco Matias is the son of Portuguese immigrants who came to Germany in the 1970s. He gained his first stage experience at the age of ten as a juggler, artist and clown in the Cirkus Banaba . He later performed as a singing duo with his brother Jorge. His first band was called Lua Cheia , which he joined when he was 16. Marco gained his first studio experience with his school band The Basement Kids , with whom he recorded the CD Cry for Peace . After graduating from high school, he studied Romance and English in Cologne ; he also appeared in clubs and bars. During this time he made contact with the a cappella ensemble Voice Sings from Cologne, with whom he performed numerous appearances.

In 2000 Marco took part in Portugal with his new band Atlanticos in the "International Festival Jovem das Comunidades Portuguesas 2000" (Youth Festival of the Portuguese Communities), which was broadcast live. In the telephone voting, the group took third place. Marco also recorded an album in Portuguese with Atlanticos and was a guest on various Portuguese television shows in 2001 and 2002.

In 2003, he took part in the casting for The German Voice 2003 and came out of 12,000 applicants among the last nine candidates. In the final of the ZDF show, he landed in second place. In March 2005 he and his duet partner Nicole Süßmilch - a participant from Germany is looking for the superstar - took second place behind Gracia in the German preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest with the title A Miracle of Love composed by Ralph Siegel . In autumn 2005 Marco and Nicole released another single called Rhythm of Love .

In 2006 Marco took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland as part of the six4one group . The composer of the participant song was again Ralph Siegel. Since 2017 he has appeared as a singer with the Bundeswehr Big Band .
