Ann Sophie (* 1. September 1990 as Ann-Sophie Dürmeyer in London ) is a German singer , songwriter , actress and musical performer . She took the song Black Smoke for Germany at the Euro Vision Song Contest 2015 in part, finishing in last place.

Life

Ann Sophie was born in London and grew up in Hamburg-Harburg . She started dancing ballet at the age of four and decided to become a singer when she was 14.

She attended the Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium and finished her school education there in 2010 with the Abitur . She then moved to New York City , where she attended the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute and completed a two-year acting course.

Career

In 2011 she started performing in bars with her own songs. In 2012 she recorded her first EP Time ; it was followed by a music video for Get Over Yourself . Her first studio album Time Extended was released in October 2013 .

Eurovision Song Contest 2015

In September 2014, Ann Sophie applied with her song Get Over Yourself for the wildcard of the show Our Song for Austria , the German qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 . A jury of experts selected them together with nine other artists from 1,270 applications. On February 19, 2015, she performed at the club concert with the song Jump the Gun penned by Beatgees , Katrina Noorbergen and Laila Samuels and won the wildcard.

On March 5, 2015, Ann Sophie competed against seven other artists in the German preliminary round. She presented her songs Jump the Gun and Black Smoke and was able to qualify for the final with the latter. There she was actually defeated in the audience vote against Andreas Kümmert , who, however, resigned on the show because he was not in the mood to perform at the competition in Vienna . He left the participation to Ann Sophie, who officially became the German representative at this competition.

In the final of the 60th Eurovision Song Contest on May 23, 2015 in Vienna, Black Smoke received no points and came in 27th and last place.

Musical and theater

2014 she starred in the comedy Dresden the lead role in the Karaoke -Komödie chick Park by Christian Kühn . In 2018 she made her musical debut in the musical Flashdance in the role of Gloria and as the second cast of Alex Owen. From September 2019 to March 2020 she took on the leading role of Indigo in the musical Cirque Du Soleil Paramour in the Neue Flora in Hamburg .

music

From 2016 to 2018 she gave various concerts at which she presented her own music acoustically with a small cast. As a soloist she went on tour with Andrej Hermlin's Swing Dance Orchestra . Since the beginning of 2019, she has been covering her favorite songs on her YouTube channel Live Sessions .
