Black Smoke ( English for black smoke ) is a song by the German singer Ann Sophie . Music and lyrics were written by Michael Harwood, Ella McMahon and Tonino Speciale. On May 23, 2015, Ann Sophie represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna . In fact, the title should not originally have been intended for Ann Sophie, but for the former The Voice of Germany winner Ivy Quainoo .
Eurovision Song Contest
The singer took part with her song Jump the Gun at the club concert of the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest Our Song for Austria . About the video portal YouTube had Ann Sophie with her first song Get Over Yourself advertised. Since this was released in 2012, she had to compete with the song Jump The Gun . She won the club concert with 24.1% and received a wildcard for the German preliminary decision in Hanover . The single Black Smoke was released on March 2, 2015 on Polydor and Island . On March 5, 2015, Andreas Kümmert was voted the winner of the preliminary decision with his song Heart of Stone , but he decided not to take part in the ESC, so Ann Sophie moved up in second place with Black Smoke . Accordingly, she took part in the final of the ESC in Vienna on May 23, 2015.
As part of the Big Five, Germany qualified directly for the final. There Ann Sophie received zero points with Black Smoke and took the last place of 27 candidates.
