Claus Peter Flor

Claus Peter Flor (born March 16, 1953 in Leipzig ) is a German conductor .

life and career

Flor began his training at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau , where he learned to play the violin and clarinet . From 1968 he studied at the Liszt School of Music Weimar . He later continued his studies at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music in Leipzig , where he passed his state examination in violin. He began studying conducting with Rolf Reuter and then in the conducting class of Kurt Masur , where he also defended the state examination. In 1979 he received the Mendelssohn grant from the Ministry of Culture for excellent achievements.

In 1981 he became chief conductor of the Thuringian Philharmonic in Suhl . In 1984 he became chief conductor and 1985 general music director of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (BSO). He held this office until 1992. During this time, Flor premiered works by Günter Kochan, among others . With the BSO he made numerous guest tours to Poland, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, France, Japan and the USA. In 1988 he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic . He was guest conductor with the Philharmonia London from 1991 to 1994 and, at the same time, with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich from 1991 .

He has received numerous prizes at international competitions, including a. in Poland, Denmark and the UK. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Schauspielhaus Berlin (today Konzerthaus Berlin ) under the direction of Peter Schreier .

From 2008 to 2014 he was music director of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia .
