Lionel Bringuier
Lionel Bringuier (born September 24, 1986 in Nice ) is a French pianist , cellist and conductor .
education
Lionel Bringuier began his education at the age of five at the Nice Conservatory, where he won five first prizes (cello, piano, chamber music, music culture and education) and graduated with a diploma in cello. In February 2000, at the age of 13, he was admitted to the Paris Conservatory , where he first studied cello with Philippe Muller and then conducting. In 2002, at the age of 15, he was the youngest Frenchman to join Zsolt Nagy 's conducting class; he prevailed among 49 candidates. In the same year he received his university entrance qualification with the distinction Mention très bien à l'unanimité with diplomas for cello and conducting. He then attended master classes with Péter Eötvös and János Fürst .
career
On February 12, 2001, he conducted the Orchester national des Pays de la Loire during the Victoires de la musique broadcast directly by France 3 .
After training in chamber music and conducting, Bringuier became assistant to the director of the Ensemble orchestral de Paris in January 2005 .
He has conducted at the Opera of Massy , in the Acropolis of Nice, in the Salle Cortot in Paris and in the Congress Center in Marseille and was guest conductor of various orchestras such as the Orchester national des Pays de la Loire , the Orchester Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo , the Czech Philharmonic , the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden , the Swedish and French radio symphony orchestras , the BBC Symphony Orchestra (including at the BBC Proms ), the New York Philharmonic , the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Cleveland Orchestra . In New York he made his debut at the Mostly Mozart Festival . In the 2005/2006 season he conducted several concerts by the Ensemble orchestral de Paris .
In 2006, Esa-Pekka Salonen , director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic , appointed Lionel Bringuier as his assistant. He took over the post in October 2007, making him the youngest assistant to the conductor in the orchestra's history and the first French. In the same year he was also appointed assistant director of the Orchester de Bretagne and made his debut as such in February 2007. Salonen's successor Gustavo Dudamel appointed Bringuier as deputy director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and later as the orchestra's first artist in residence . He held the office until the 2012/2013 season.
In 2009 he was appointed music director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Castilla y León in Valladolid , Spain , and remained there until the 2011/2012 season. Since April 17, 2014 he has been guest conductor of the Alma Chamber Orchestra in Paris.
In 2011 he made his debut as opera conductor with Bizet's Carmen in Valladolid and at the Royal Stockholm Opera , and in 2014 with Massenet's Werther at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan .
In November 2011 and June 2012 Bringuier was the guest conductor of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich . In the 2014/2015 season he succeeded David Zinman as conductor and music director of the orchestra with a four-year contract. In August 2016 the orchestra announced that the contract with Bringuier would not be extended and that he would end his engagement with the 2017/2018 season.
Recordings
Bringuier has recorded Vincent d'Indy's music with the Orchester de Bretagne for Timpani Records and Camille Saint-Saëns ' with the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France for Erato Records.
Awards
In 2005 Bringuier won the final of the 49th Concours international de jeunes chefs d'orchestre de Besançon . Initially, 220 conductors from 42 countries were assessed in preliminary examinations in Russia, China, the USA and France. Afterwards, 20 candidates were able to present themselves at the final in conducting La Valse by Ravel , the Rococo Variations by Tchaikovsky and by Gloria by Philippe Fénelon (with cellist Marc Coppey as soloist). The Orchestra Musicians Prize of the Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse and the Audience Prize, which was voted on during the final, also went to Lionel Bringuier.
He is a laureate of the Langart and Cziffra Foundations and recipient of the Clés de la ville Honorary Award of Nice.
Private
Lionel Bringuier is the son of an engineer and a police officer. His three older brothers are also musicians, including the pianist Nicolas Bringuier , with whom he regularly performs in a duo.
