János Prince

János Fürst [ ˈjaːnoʃ ˈfyrst ] (born August 8, 1935 in Budapest , † January 3, 2007 in Paris ) was a Hungarian violinist and conductor .

Fürst studied violin at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest and later at the Paris Conservatory . Then he worked as a concert master . In 1963 he founded the Irish Chamber Orchestra and in 1966 he became concertmaster of the Ulster Orchestra . He later worked as a conductor in Malmö , Aalborg , Dublin , Marseille and with the Winterthur City Orchestra (now the Winterthur Music College ). He was also principal guest conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra .

In 1972 he made his debut as a conductor in London , where he has directed all major orchestras ever since. He also performed in numerous European cities, in Israel, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. He also worked for nine years as music director of the Opera in Marseille and has made guest appearances at the English National Opera , the Scottish Opera and the Kungliga Operan Stockholm . Since 1997 he has been professor of conducting at the Conservatoire de Paris.
