Irish Chamber Orchestra

The Irish Chamber Orchestra (ICO) ( Irish Ceolfhoireann Aireagail na hÉireann ) is an orchestra of the University of Limerick and consists of Irish and international players. From 2006 to 2011, Anthony Marwood was Artistic Director. He was followed in 2011 by Jörg Widmann as conductor and artistic partner , and since 2013 Gábor Tákacs Nagy has also been an artistic partner .

The ensemble achieved great success on its Asia tour, during which it was enthusiastically celebrated by the audience. The orchestra has also played throughout Europe and the United States, including at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC The ensemble's repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary literature.

Well-known soloists who have taken part include: Nigel Kennedy , Bruno Giuranna , Mariana Sîrbu and Günter Pichler . In 2005 the orchestra worked with the conductor James Galway , performed at the MBNA Shannon International Music Festival and performed with the violin virtuoso Maxim Wengerow .
