Hamrochon Sarifij ( Tajik Ҳамрохон Зарифӣ , Russian Хамрохон Зарифи , until April 17, 2007 Hamrochon Saripow ; born December 25, 1948 in the Wosse district near Kulob ) is a Tajik diplomat and politician .

Hamrochon Sarifij studied mathematics and physics at the State Pedagogical Institute in Kulob from 1966 to 1971 . After completing his studies, he stayed as a lecturer at the Faculty of Physics until he began military service in the Red Army in 1972 . In 1973 he began a research activity at the Umarow Institute for Physics and Technology in Dushanbe . From 1974 he worked full time in the service of the KGB of the Tajik Soviet Republic . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he moved to the Foreign Ministry of the now independent Republic of Tajikistan in 1993. From 1995 to 1996 he was Deputy Foreign Minister. From 1996 Sarifij was the permanent representative of Tajikistan to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), from 1997 Ambassador to Austria . Its business area was expanded to include Switzerland in 1998 and Hungary in 1999 . In 2002 he finished his work in Europe and went to Washington as Tajikistan's ambassador to the United States . He held this office until his appointment as Tajik Foreign Minister on December 1, 2006. On December 1, 2013, he was replaced by the country's new Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin .
