Aleksandar Marković

Aleksandar Marković (born August 7, 1975 in Belgrade , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian - Austrian conductor who lives in Vienna .

Life

Marković studied with Leopold Hager at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . He also attended master classes by Gianluigi Gelmetti and Lothar Zagrosek at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena . He was a scholarship holder of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation Berlin.

As a prize winner of the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition , he was appointed music director of the Stanislaw Moniuszko Filharmonia Koszalin in 2003 . From 2005 to 2008 he was chief conductor at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck . As a guest conductor he led the State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate , the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg , the German Symphony Orchestra and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin , as well as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra . In the 2009/2010 season Markovic took over the management of the Brno Philharmonic .

From autumn 2016 he will be the musical director of Opera North in Leeds, England.
