Rossija 1 ( Russian Россия 1 , previously also called RTR or Telekanal Rossija / PTP or Телеканал Россия) is a state television broadcaster in Russia . It maintains 80 regional channels nationwide in Russia, which fade into the national program in regional windows.

history

The forerunner of Telekanal Rossija already existed during the Soviet Union as the official state broadcaster of the Russian republic and was renamed Telekanal Rossija in 1991. In 1998 the broadcaster was integrated into the state media holding company WGTRK and has been indirectly subject to government media supervision since then. Similar to the state broadcaster ORT , the one-sided, government-loyal reporting of Rossiya is viewed critically by political observers. The station's lack of independence due to the government's supervision of the state holding as the owner is also criticized. With the renaming of the previous channel Rossija Sport to Rossija 2 In January 2010 and its expansion into a full program, the telekanal Rossija was renamed Rossija 1.

Market shares

According to a survey in 2003, the national market share of the Rossija channel in the Russian TV sector was over 20%, which puts it in second place behind ORT . 96% of the Russian population can receive Rossija; in a 2006 survey, over 75% switched on the station at least once a week, which puts the station in second place nationwide in these two disciplines.

program

Rossija broadcasts a full television program that can be received by 135 million viewers. By 2001 there was a high proportion of US and Latin American productions at Rossija. The station has been producing its own films and series for several years.
