Rossija RTR , formerly RTR Planeta (Russian РТР Планета) is a state television broadcaster in Russia , which is broadcast abroad via cable television and satellite (in Europe via Hot Bird 6 ). He is in Germany a. a. Part of the pay TV offerings of the cable network operators Vodafone Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia . RTR Planeta is digitally distributed throughout Switzerland by UPC Switzerland .

Rossija RTR broadcasts a full television program that is largely identical to the Russian domestic channel Rossija 1 , but also contains elements from other Russian TV channels ( Rossija 2 , Rossija K , Rossija 24 ). Like the latter, it is also owned by the state media holding WGTRK .

RTR Planeta, like its sister station in Russia, is part of the government-loyal majority of the Russian media landscape.

In April 2014, the station was banned for three months in Lithuania and Latvia . The Latvian Broadcasting Authority explained the move by stating that RTR Planeta had justified military action against a sovereign state during the Ukraine war . Lithuania's Foreign Minister Linas Antanas Linkevičius said that the station violated journalistic quality standards and incited war and hatred. For example, Vladimir Shirinovsky's demands were broadcast for Russian tanks to be rolled into Ukraine and Brussels. Lithuania also had the station banned for three months in April 2015 and December 2016. The European Commission decided in both cases that the measures taken by Lithuania comply with Union law. Lithuania was able to prove that RTR Planeta violated the prohibition of incitement to hatred. The station tried to provoke tensions and violence between Ukrainians and Russians and also against the EU and NATO countries, especially Turkey.
