Günter Voglmayr

Günter Voglmayr (born February 21, 1968 in Ried im Innkreis ; † January 11, 2012 ) was an Austrian flautist .

Life

Günter Voglmayr got his first flute lessons at the age of 8, from 1978 with Helmut Trawöger at the Landesmusikschule Grieskirchen and 4 years later he studied with Wolfgang Schulz at the Musikhochschule Vienna .

Voglmayr was a prizewinner at the national youth music competition Austria and a participant in the Eurovision International EBU Competition for Young Musicians in Copenhagen.

In 1987 he was the first flutist in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under Claudio Abbado and Franz Welser-Möst and with the stage orchestra of the Austrian Federal Theaters. In 1993 Voglmayr took up the position of flutist in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera , in 1996 he became a member of the Association of the Vienna Philharmonic as successor to Herbert Reznicek.

As a chamber musician, Voglmayr has worked in various ensembles, such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and Zurich Chamber Orchestra , the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic and the Stockholm Sinfonietta.

He was the founder and until 2004 director of the Klangburg Festival Rappottenstein .
