Mikio Taka

Mikio Taka ( Japanese 高 幹 雄 , Taka Mikio ; born October 30, 1978 in Hakodate ) is a Japanese artist .

Life

Mikio Taka is one of the youngest finalists to be selected for the Sapporo Contemporary Art Award in 1998. His works have been shown in group exhibitions at the Proposition Gallery in New York, the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, the Super Deluxe Gallery in Tokyo and the CAI Gallery in Hamburg (now Mikiko Sato Gallery). In the summer of 2004, the Hamburg Senator for Culture awarded Mikio Taka a residency at the studio so that he could create new works of art, which were exhibited in a group exhibition on contemporary Japanese art at the Kunsthaus Hamburg in 2005.

Mikio Taka's drawings combine figurative drawing and dream-like landscapes. His work covers a wide range: from minimalist ink drawings to three-dimensional works. An accumulation of recurring forms and figures emerges in his works in order to create his own paradise, which at first glance seems to have been digitally generated. With the help of these elements, the artist interprets his way of looking at landscape as an amoeba-like organism that hypnotizes and fascinates the viewer.
