Karl David Ekholm (born January 16, 1979 in Ekshärad , Hagfors municipality ) is a former Swedish biathlete .
Career
David Ekholm started biathlon in 1993 . The student from Östersund , who starts for Bore Biathlon , has been a member of the national team since 2002. His trainers were Wolfgang Pichler and Leif Andersson . He made his international debut in 1999 in Pokljuka at the Junior World Championships. In the individual races he could not achieve any success, but with the Swedish team he won gold. The next big appearance for the young athlete was at the European Championships in Haute-Maurienne . The best result was a tenth place with the relay. In 2002 he made his debut at the last station of the Biathlon World Cup at Holmenkollen in Oslo , where he was 75th in the sprint.
From now on he was used again and again in the World Cup. However, he usually only performed better in the seasons. In 2004, he first took part in a senior world championship in Oberhof . In the individual races he could not achieve good results, but he finished sixth in the relay. In the same year he also took part in the World Military Championship. With Björn Ferry , Carl Johan Bergman and Jakob Börjesson , he finished ninth in the patrol run, which is only held at military world championships. In the sprint that Raphaël Poirée won, Ekholm was 37.
In the 2004/05 season he won a World Cup in Oberhof with the Swedish relay . But at the Biathlon World Championships in 2005 in Hochfilzen , the season was only seventh. In the 2005/06 season Ekholm was able to present itself better in the World Cup for the first time. In Hochfilzen, he won the first 28 points in a sprint. In Osrblie he finished 19th in the individual his best result so far in an individual race, which he was able to achieve again in a sprint in Östersund the following season. The highlight of Ekholm's career was participation in the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin . He started in the individual (35th), sprint (39th) and pursuit (40th). For the season, the fourth just missed a medal by a hair's breadth, Ekholm could not qualify.
At the 2007 World Championships in Antholz , he could not achieve a good result in the individual as 52nd again, but with the relay he was seventh. At the 2009 World Championships in Pyeongchang , he finished fifth in the individual, his first top 10 placement in the World Cup. He also won the silver medal with the mixed relay. He finished the World Cup 2008/2009 in 54th place.
Ekholm is married to the Swedish biathlete Helena Ekholm .
