Rostislav Václavíček (born December 7, 1946 in Vrahovice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak football player . With the Czechoslovak team he won the 1980 Olympic football tournament . With 280 first division games in a row, he is the Czechoslovak record holder.

Career

Rostislav Václavíček played since his youth for Železárny Prostějov , where he was mostly used in attacking midfield, and now and then as a striker. 1970 the 1.90 m tall Václavíček should switch to FC Zbrojovka Brno , who fought against relegation from the first division. The coach was able to talk Václavíček out of a move to Brno , instead his club negotiated with Baník Ostrava , but without result. Finally, Železárny Prostějov agreed with the second division club NHKG Ostrava on a transfer. As a replacement for Václavíček, the NHKG, the steelworks Nová huť built a grandstand in the Prostějov stadium , which is still standing today.

In 1971 Václavíček, meanwhile converted to defender, moved to Zbrojovka. From May 1, 1972 to June 10, 1981 he competed in 280 encounters without interruption for Zbrojovka, which is still a Czechoslovak or Czech record. In the 1977/78 season he led his team as captain to the only title win in the history of the club.

The reliable Václavíček never made it into the senior national team, with the Czechoslovak Olympic team, for which he played 17 games, he won the gold medal at the 1980 Games in Moscow.

In 1981 Václavíček moved to KSC Hasselt in the 2nd Belgian League, where Josef Masopust worked as a coach. He returned to Brno in 1984, which had meanwhile been relegated to the second division. After two and a half seasons in which his team tried in vain for promotion, Václavíček ended his career. Until 1990 he was still active as a player- coach in lower Austrian leagues.
