Vrahovice (German Wrahowitz ) is a district of Prostějov in the Czech Republic . The village is located three kilometers northeast of the city center of Prostějov and belongs to the Okres Prostějov .

geography

The place Vrahovice is on the left side of the Romže river in the Upper Moravian Basin ( Hornomoravský úval ). South of the village, the Romže joins the Hloučela to form the Valová . The Nezamyslice – Šternberk railway line runs on the northern outskirts and the R46 expressway runs one kilometer to the west .

Neighboring towns are Olšany u Prostějova and Hablov in the north, Dubany, Vrbátky and Štětovice in the northeast, Kraličky and Hrdibořice in the east, Čechůvky and Kralice na Hané in the southeast, Bedihošť in the south, Prostějov in the southwest and Držovice in the northwest.

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1337. The word "vrah" means " enemy " in Old Czech . The owners have changed several times since the Middle Ages. From 1725 the Counts Seilern were the landlords of Vrahovice. Until the middle of the 19th century, the village remained subject to the Kralitz rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial Vrahovice, then also Wrahowitz, a municipality in the district administration Prostějov. During the First Republic , the village grew rapidly. After the Second World War, an internment camp for Germans from Okres Prostějov who were expelled from Czechoslovakia was established in Vrahovice. Between 1950 and 1954 Vrahovice was incorporated into Prostějov. Then Vrahovice became independent again. At the beginning of 1961, Čechůvky was incorporated . Since January 1, 1973 Vrahovice is again a district of Prostějov. In 1991 Vrahovice had 3307 inhabitants. In 2001 the place consisted of 753 houses, in which 3402 people lived. In total, Vrahovice consists of 919 houses.

On December 9, 2004, a serious traffic accident occurred in which a truck carrying soldiers collided with a train. Five people died and eight others suffered serious injuries.

In Vrahovice there is a post office, a primary school, a train station and several restaurants. Club life is managed by Sokol , the Association of Voluntary Fire Brigades and the Spolek za staré Vrahovice (founded in 2003). He promotes environmental protection , local history , local history and public relations of Vrahovice, organized two exhibitions and made a postcard . The Spolek za staré Vrahovice also founded the Vrahovice Arboretum .

The district Vrahovice consists of the basic settlement units Štér and Vrahovice. It forms a cadastral district.

Personalities

The musicians Zdeněk Tylšar and Bedřich Tylšar were born in the village. The football player Rostislav Václavíček was born in Vrahovice and he started playing football there. The linguist František Kopečný lived in Vrahovice until his death.
