Zdeněk Rygel (born March 1, 1951 in Ostrava ) is a former Czech football player .

Club career

Rygel began playing football at Baník Michálkovice, at the age of 15 he moved to Baník Ostrava . First Rygel played in midfield , then in defense . The defender made his first appearance in the first Czechoslovak league in the 1972/73 season.

With Baník Rygel won the Czechoslovak Championship in 1976, 1980 and 1981, and the Czechoslovak Cup in 1978 . After 257 first division games and seven goals Rygel moved to the Cypriot club EPA Larnaka . After one season he returned to Czechoslovakia and joined the then second division club FC Zbrojovka Brno for two years .

National team

Rygel played a total of four times for the Czechoslovak national team in 1974 and 1975 .

Olympic team

Zdeněk Rygel was part of the Czechoslovak selection in 1980, which won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Moscow . The defender played in the opening game against Colombia and in the final against the GDR , in between he was injured.

After the end of his playing career, Rygel was sports director at NH Ostrava and Baník Ostrava.
