Chiaki Ishikawa ( Japanese 石川 智 晶 , Ishikawa Chiaki , also spelled 石川 千 亜 紀 or 石川 知 亜 紀 with the same pronunciation ; born March 29, 1969 in Tokyo , Japan ) is a Japanese singer and the leading vocalist of the duo See-Saw . Many of the titles created by her or in collaboration with other musicians were used as theme songs for anime series.

Life

She was a member of the school choir from a young age . She later joined her older sister's band and gave many appearances as a singer for the high school band in the Tokyo area. In 1993 she founded the band See-Saw with Yuki Kajiura and Yukiko Nishioka , from which Yukiko left the following year in order to continue her career as a writer. Still as a trio, the band released the first single SWIMMER ( う た ) on July 25, 1993, which was followed by the first album I Have a Dream on September 19 of the same year . After three years and the release of six singles and two albums, the collaboration of this formation ended temporarily.

Within these three years, Chiaki also wrote titles for other artists and began a career as a solo singer under the name Somali . In 1999 she released her first solo album with Magnolia and gave numerous appearances in and around Tokyo. In 2001, the two band members of See-Saw got together again, but this time they produced the soundtrack for the anime television series Noir . This production was followed by other titles and albums for anime series such as Mobile Suit Gundam Seed , whose album Anna ni Issho Datta noni made it to number 5 on the Oricon charts and was the formation's greatest success to date.

After the release of See-Saw's third album Dream Field and the solo album Inner Garden in 2003, she brought out another solo single Ame no Hi ni Koi o Shita / Haru in 2004 . Since See-Saw , especially Yuki Kajiura, had established close contacts with the anime producers, the formation continued to produce singles and albums for well-known works. In 2005 the single Kimi wa Boku ni Nite Iru was released , which was the closing melody of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny and reached number 4 on the Oricon charts. Following this trend, Utsukushikereba Sore de Ii , a single for the anime Simoun , was released in 2006 .

In July of that year she performed at the Animelo Summer Live 2006 in Nippon Budōkan , where she sang Utsukushikereba Sore de Ii and Anna ni Issho Datta noni in front of more than 10,000 fans.

On August 22, 2007 she released the single Uninstall , which was used in the opening credits to the anime Bokurano . This was followed in November of the same year with another single with 1/2 , which was among others in the third season of You're Under Arrest! serves as background music.

At the Anime Expo 2007 she was one of Victor Entertainment's guests of honor, including Aya Hirano , Eisaku Inoue , Mary Elizabeth McGlynn , Masaru Kitao and Minori Chihara .
