The Otto Ubbelohde Prize is a cultural prize named after the painter and graphic artist Otto Ubbelohde . It was donated in 1987 by the Marburg-Biedenkopf district .

Foundation purpose

Since 1987, up to three awards have been given annually for special achievements in the areas of monument preservation , local art , local history , care of local customs and occupation with Otto Ubbelohde 's work.

The Otto Ubbelohde Prize is primarily a tribute to voluntary work. Since its foundation, numerous groups and individuals from the Marburg-Biedenkopf district have received the award. The award takes the form of a certificate and can be associated with monetary amounts of 3 times 1000 euros. In recent years it has become common practice to award the prize to a woman, a man and a group / club. Since 2003 the award of the prize has been carried out in the district's own Landgrave Castle in Biedenkopf .

Benefactor

The award is made publicly by the district committee. A jury is set up to determine the winner (s) .

The jury includes:

  • the head of the cultural sector as chairperson,
  • the chairman of the school and culture committee,
  • one representative from each of the parliamentary groups represented in the district council,
  • a representative of the press and cultural work service.

Namesake

Main article: Otto Ubbelohde

Otto Ubbelohde offered himself as the namesake of this award for several reasons. On the one hand he was a representative of the arts, on the other hand he covered other fields, because he was active in his community of Goßfelden and its surroundings with regard to landscape and monument protection as well as social issues. The artist, who died in 1922 at the age of 55, enjoyed a high reputation among the population as a “cultural curator” in the Marburg region .
