Life / career
Growing up in Würzburg, the artist was impressed early on by the frescoes by the Italian painter Tiepolo in the baroque residence of Balthasar Neumann there . From 1973 to 1979 she studied with Raimer Jochims at the Städel Art Academy in Frankfurt . She has lived in Marburg in central Hesse since 1980 . Doris Conrads has been teaching drawing and painting at the Institute for Fine Arts (formerly Institute for Graphics and Painting ) at the Philipps University of Marburg since 1983 .
Artistic concept
Doris Conrads works on large skyscapes that transport the viewer into the clearly expanded space of the sky and the entire universe. The often large-format works are created with chalk on paper or in watercolor on linen. Seas of clouds, star landscapes, gray to black-and-blue color landscapes spread out in layers in peace and in a slow work process.
