Wilhelm Solms

Wilhelm Solms , actually Wilhelm Prinz zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich (born January 5, 1937 in Lich ), is a German specialist in German .

Life

Solms studied German and musicology at the University of Munich and at the University of Music in Vienna . He obtained his Magister Artium degree in 1967 and received his doctorate in 1970 with a thesis on Goethe's West-Eastern Divan (book title later: Goethe's preparatory work on the Divan ).

From 1964 to 1972 Solms was initially the administrator of a research assistant position and from 1974 to 1977 research assistant at the Institute for Modern German Philology at the University of Munich. In 1977 he moved to the University of Marburg as a professor of communication studies and media didactics , where he retired in 2001. Guest lectureships took him to the Yerevan State University in Armenia in 2004 and 2006 .

His research and publication focus are the literature of the 19th century, Goethe, Grimm's fairy tales , gypsy images in literature and antiziganism . Solms is a co-founder of the Society for Antiziganism Research e. V., since 2000 first chairman of the association and publisher of this society's newsletter. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Documentation and Cultural Center of German Sinti and Roma in Heidelberg.

Wilhelm Solms is married to Milicent Princess zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich born. von Boch-Galhau (born July 13, 1937 in Mettlach ). The couple have two sons and two daughters. Solms is the brother of the agricultural entrepreneur Philipp Reinhard zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich , the publicist Dorothea Countess Razumovsky and the politician Hermann Otto Solms . Friedrich L. Sell is a half-brother.

In April 2016 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
