European fairy tale society

The European Fairy Tale Society was founded in 1956 in the Bentlage monastery in Rheine in the Münsterland region in the legal form of a registered association . The monastery is the administrative seat of the society. It currently has around 2300 members.

The society serves lovers of fairy tales , storytellers, artists and scientists as a forum for the exchange about fairy tales and the preservation of this cultural asset.

The company feels committed to international understanding and is geared towards appearing in an international context. Against the background that the literary genre of fairy tales is known to cultures and peoples all over the world, the society organizes fairy tale evenings as well as conferences and seminars dealing with fairy tales inside and outside Germany.

The society maintains a specialist library in the north wing of the Bentlage monastery . It publishes a series of books with research results on the subject of "fairy tales" and with texts that have been tried and tested for storytelling, as well as a series of sound carriers (recordings of fairy tales told). It organizes specialist conferences and promotes the art of storytelling , including keeping a list of storytellers in Germany in 15 German dialects and dialects and in English , French , Greek , Hebrew , Japanese , Russian , Spanish and Turkish .
