Kanstanzin Jauhenjewitsch Kalzou ( Belarusian Канстанцін Яўгеньевіч Кальцоў , Russian Константин Евгеньевич Кольцов / Konstantin Koltsov Jewgenjewitsch * 17th April 1981 in Minsk , Byelorussian SSR ) is a former Belarusian ice hockey player . In the course of his career he was among others at HK Dinamo Minsk , Salawat Julajew Ufa and Atlant Mytishchi in the Continental Hockey League and for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League . For Belarus , Kalzou also took part in a number of world championships and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . Kalzou has been working as an ice hockey coach since the end of his career and was most recently the assistant coach of HK Dinamo Minsk between July 2017 and November 2018.
Career
Kanstanzin Kalzou began his career as a hockey player at Yunost Minsk , for whom he made his debut in the 1998-99 season Eastern European Hockey League , and the Belarusian Extraliga was before he the playing time at Severstal Cherepovets in the Russian Super League ended. He was then selected in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as the 18th player of the Pittsburgh Penguins . Initially, however, the attacker was under contract for one season each in Russia with Metallurg Novokuznetsk , Ak Bars Kazan and HK Spartak Moscow for the following three years . After the left-handed shooter had only played in two games for Pittsburgh in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season , he completed all 82 regular season games for the Penguins in the following year, in which he scored a total of 29 points scorer. In both seasons he also played for Pittsburgh's farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League .
Kalzou bridged the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season in his Belarusian homeland at HK Dinamo Minsk and at his former Russian club HK Spartak Moscow. After resumption of play in the NHL, the winger returned to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a year before signing a contract with Salawat Julajew Ufa in the summer of 2006 , with whom he became Russian champions for the first time in his career in 2008 . In the 2010/11 season he won the Gagarin Cup with Ufa .
In summer 2012, after six years in Ufa, he moved to Atlant Mytishchi , where he was assistant captain. Due to the club's financial problems, Kalzou was transferred to Ak Bars Kazan in December 2014 against payment of compensation, where Kalzou had played 39 games by the end of the season. He then moved to HK Sochi in May 2015 , which he left before the start of the new season in order to sign a new contract with HK Dinamo Minsk shortly afterwards.
In November 2016, Kalzou ended his career after 18 years in professional ice hockey.
International
For Belarus Kalzou took part in the U18 Junior B World Championship in 1999 , the U20 Junior World Championships in 1999 and 2001 and the U20 Junior B World Championship in 2000 . Furthermore, he was in Belarus' squad at the 2001 , 2005 , 2007 , 2008 and 2009 World Championships , as well as at the 2002 B World Championships and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City .
