Alexander Pavlovich Chawanow ( Russian Александр Павлович Хаванов ; born January 30, 1972 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player (defender).
Career
Already for the 1992/93 season Chawanow played with the Birmingham Bulls in the East Coast Hockey League . About the SKA Saint Petersburg and Severstal Tscherepowez and some games in the Finnish SM-liiga at HPK Hämeenlinna his way to the 1998/99 season led to HK Dynamo Moscow .
In 1999 he was then selected in the eighth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 232nd place by the St. Louis Blues . For this he played a total of four seasons in the National Hockey League . He spent the NHL lockout season again at SKA Saint Petersburg. After another season in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs , he moved back to Europe for the 2006/07 season and worked for HC Davos in the National League A for a year . He ended his career in the summer of 2007 at the age of 35.
Since the end of his career he has worked as a TV commentator and expert, sports journalist and scout .
