Vitaly Michailowitsch Jeremejew ( Russian Виталий Михайлович Еремеев ; born September 23, 1975 in Ust-Kamenogorsk , Kazakh SSR ) is a former Kazakh ice hockey goalkeeper who last played until 2010 for Barys Astana in the Continental Hockey League . Since 2015 he has been the goalkeeping coach at Snezhnye Barys Astana in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League .

Career

Vitaly Jeremejew began his career in his home country with Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk before he was selected in the ninth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers in 209th place. However, he did not move to North America, but continued his career in the Russian league at HK CSKA Moscow . Other stations in Russia were Torpedo Yaroslavl and HK Dynamo Moscow, with which he was able to achieve the championship in the Russian Super League in the 1999/2000 season. After this success he moved to North America for the Rangers farm team , the Hartford Wolf Pack , in the AHL . On December 27, 2000 he made his NHL debut for the New York Rangers, but could not win both this game and his three other NHL appearances. Therefore, he was first sent to Hartford and later even in the East Coast Hockey League to the Charlotte Checkers . After three games in the 2001/02 season for Charlotte, he then returned to Russia for Dynamo Moscow. In the 2004/05 season Dynamo again won the Russian championship and Jeremejew had a very large share in this success with a playoff counter goal of 0.9. In 2010 he moved to league rivals Barys Astana , where he ended his career in 2014.

After the Russian ice hockey federation had decided before the 2006/07 season to punish foreign goalkeepers with a fine of around € 150,000, Jeremejew announced his resignation from the Kazakh national team in order to no longer be considered a foreigner. However, the resignation and the subsequent arbitration decision were unsuccessful, so Dynamo Moscow had to pay the fine.

Since 2015 he has been the goalkeeping coach of Snezhnye Barys Astana , the Barys Astana youth team that plays in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League .

International

Yeremejew was called up to the Kazakh national team early in his career . In 1994 he took part in his first C-World Championship and achieved a catch quota of 93.1% and an average goal against 1.80 in six games. In the following years he played at the C world championships in 1995 and 1996 , the B world championships in 1997 , 1999 and 2000 and at the A world championship in 1999 . After switching to the current division system, he played in the top division in 2010 , 2012 and 2014 and in division I in 2011 , when he made a significant contribution to the Kazakhs' immediate return to the top division with the lowest conceded goal rate and the second-best catch rate. He also played at two Olympic Games, in Nagano in 1998 and in Turin in 2006, and in qualifying for the 2014 Games in Sochi . At the Winter Asian Games 2011 he won the gold medal with Kazakhstan and contributed significantly to this success with the best catch rate and the lowest conceded goal rate per game.
