Alexander Karpovtsev ( Russian Александр Георгиевич Карповцев * 7. April 1970 in Moscow , Russian SFSR , † 7. September 2011 in Tunoschna in Yaroslavl ) was a Russian ice hockey player and - coaches , who during his career including for the New York Rangers , Toronto Maple Leafs , Chicago Blackhawks , New York Islanders and Florida Panthers played in the National Hockey League .
Career
During his Soviet time he played for HK Dynamo Moscow , with which he was three times Soviet champion. At the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 he was selected in the eighth round in 158th place by the Québec Nordiques . In 1993 he moved to the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League . Other stations in his career in the NHL included the Toronto Maple Leafs , Chicago Blackhawks , New York Islanders and the Florida Panthers . In 1994 he won the Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers together with Sergei Nemtschinow , Alexei Kowaljow and Sergei Subow . The four were the first Russians who were immortalized in this Cup.
In 2004 he went back to Russia and played until 2008 with HK Sibir Novosibirsk , Lokomotive Yaroslavl and HK Awangard Omsk in the Russian league . Karpovzew worked as an assistant coach for Ak Bars Kazan in the 2009/10 season . For the 2011/12 season he was engaged in the same position by Lokomotive Yaroslavl. On September 7, 2011, he was killed in a plane crash near Yaroslavl .
International
After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he became a member of the Russian national ice hockey team . His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1993 Ice Hockey World Championship . In 1993 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ".
