Route length: 5.8 km

The Wuhlehirsk trolleybus was the only inner-city mode of transport in the city of Wuhlehirsk in the Ukrainian Donetsk Oblast . With 10,693 inhabitants (as of 2008), Wuhlehirsk was the smallest city with its own trolleybus operation in the Ukraine, and one of the smallest in the world. With a route length of 5.8 kilometers, the operation in Wuhlehirsk was also the shortest trolleybus network in Ukraine.

history

On July 8, 1982 the trolleybus operation in Wuhlehirsk was opened with line 1 on the route between Salisnytschnyj voksal (train station) and shaft (Schachta Wuhlehirska). There was previously tram traffic on this route from November 10, 1958 to June 28, 1980 . The former tram depot was converted for trolleybus operations.

On June 9, 1984, the route network was expanded by the section from the bus station (Avtostanzija) to the Gagarin settlement (Selyschtsche Haharina) and line 2 (Schachta Wuhlehirska – Selyschtsche Haharina) was set up.

In 2001, line 1 was only in operation in the morning from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., while line 2 ran all day. In 2003, line 1 was completely closed, but the catenary on the Avtostanzija – Salisnytschnyj voksal section initially remained operational.

In 2011 the trolleybus operation came to a complete standstill because it was no longer possible to maintain the ZiU-9 trolleybuses, which were up to 30 years old and completely worn out . Subsequently, the overhead line on the road to the shaft was partially stolen. In order to be able to resume operation after the used trolleybuses from Kiev were available , the overhead line was repaired using material from the branch line to the station that was no longer in use. In December 2011 the line to the station was restored. Here, however, the management of the overhead line was simplified. Originally there were catenary switches corresponding to lines 1 and 2 at the junction, but they have not existed since the reconstruction. In the direction of Selyschtsche Haharina, the previous straight line was followed, in the direction of Schachta Wuhlehirska the branch line to the station was served.

Since November 1, 2013, initially on a trial basis, two trolleybuses have been used in daytime traffic Monday to Friday, with which mostly two trips per hour and direction are offered.

From April to the end of July 2014, Wuhlehirsk was under the influence of the Donetsk People's Republic . In August 2014, fighting broke out again in the city. On August 12th the trolleybus operation had to be stopped. Subsequently, the overhead line systems were largely destroyed, so that a resumption of operations is not foreseeable.

Route network

Trolleybus line 2 largely followed the course of the Debaltseve - Jenakijewe road (trunk road M 04 in the area of urban development, in Wuhlehirsk this is the wul. Nekrasowa). South of the village exit in the direction of Jenakijewe, the trolleybus route branched off from the thoroughfare and followed the road to the shaft. The branch line to the train station, which has been integrated into the continuous route since 2012, ran over the wul. Tramwainja, the name refers to the tram that operated here until 1980.

The depot is located west of the city center. It could only be approached from the direction of Selyschtsche Haharina, exits were only possible in the direction of Schachta Wuhlehirska.

vehicles

Six ZiU-9 trolleybuses built in 1981 were available for the opening, and another was delivered in 1986. The trolleybuses had the numbers 1 to 7. Trolleybus 004 was given a facility as a driving school car and was renamed "U-04" (U-04), but continued to be used by passengers. Cars 3, 6 and 7 were redrawn as 003, 006 and 007. In 2007 there were only three trolleybuses left. In March 2011, two JuMZ T2 trolleybuses built in 2001 and 2002 were rented from Kiev for five years. They were used in Wuhlehirsk under the Kiev numbers 532 and 536. After their commissioning, the last three ZiU-9 003, У-04 and 007 were scrapped in July. In April 2012, two more JuMZ T2 were taken over from Donetsk , they were also in use under their old numbers 2023 and 2028.

business

The trolleybus operation in Wuhlehirsk was carried out by TTU Jenakijewe. This company also operates the Yenakieve tram .

In 2007, 17 pairs of trips were offered every day, approximately every 50 minutes. A trolleybus was required for this. In 2013 there were 16 pairs of trips, since November 1, 2013, Monday to Friday, 26th. Start of operation was at 5:10 am, and end of operation at 10:20 pm. Since line 2 was routed over the branch line to the train station, the line number was usually not given.
