Nathan McIver (born January 6, 1985 in Summerside , Prince Edward Island ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League since July 2012 .
Career
Nathan McIver started his career with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors , who had previously selected him in the second round of the 2002 OHL Priority Selection Draft . McIver gained three years of ice hockey experience as a regular in Toronto. In his third and last season in Toronto he scored 26 points, including four goals, so that he was appointed to the OHL Third All-Star Team.
During the 2003 NHL Entry Draft , McIver was selected as the 254th player by the Vancouver Canucks . At first, however, he was only used in the Canucks farm team , the Manitoba Moose , where he completed his first season in professional ice hockey in the American Hockey League . Due to an injury in the professional team of the Canucks McIver made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2006/07 season . In the following season there were always bottlenecks in Vancouver's defense, so that McIver was allowed to play a total of 17 games in the NHL team.
In the summer of 2008, McIver played in three preparation games for the Canucks before he was signed by the Anaheim Ducks on the waiver list . In the 2008/09 season he was also able to celebrate his first assist for the Ducks, having previously remained pointless in 18 games for Vancouver. On February 4, 2009, McIver returned to the Canucks in exchange for Mike Brown . They used him in the Manitoba Moose farm team until the end of the 2009/10 season . In July 2010, he signed a contract with the Boston Bruins as a free agent and McIver subsequently worked regularly for their farm team, the Providence Bruins .
After his contract expired, the Canadian agreed on a one-year contract with the New York Islanders in July 2012 .
