Witali Wladimirowitsch Karamnow ( Russian Виталий Владимирович Карамнов ; born July 6, 1968 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player and current coach who worked for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League and Berlin Capitals and Krefeld Pinguine has played in the German Ice Hockey League . His son Vitali Karamnow is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Karamnow began his career in the youth teams of HK Dynamo Moscow , for whose first team he made his debut in the top Soviet league, the Vysschaya League , during the 1986/87 season . In 1987 he moved to Dinamo Kharkiv in the second division, the Pervaya League . At the end of the 1987/88 season he managed with Dinamo Kharkiv promotion to the Wysschaja Liga. Between 1989 and 1991 he played for Torpedo Yaroslavl before returning to his hometown club. With this he became champion of the CIS in 1992 .
In the 1992 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the third round in 62nd place by the St. Louis Blues . He then moved to the Blues in the National Hockey League , where he was repeatedly employed in the farm team , the Peoria Rivermen from the International Hockey League , in the following three years .
In 1995 Karamnow went to Finland for one season at JYP Jyväskylä . From 1996 to 1999 Karamnow played in Germany with the Berlin Capitals and Krefeld Pinguinen . He spent the 1999/2000 season at the Czech club HC Slovnaft Vsetín . For the 2000/01 season, the left winger returned to Russia in the Super League , where he was under contract with Vitjas Podolsk and Salawat Julajew Ufa . After the 2003/04 season Karamnow ended his career with the then second division club HK Spartak Moscow .
Karamnow has been working as a coach since 2011 and initially looked after the HK WMF Saint Petersburg from the Wysschaja Hockey League . In the 2012/13 season he was under contract with HC Lev Prague as an assistant coach.
International
Karamnow was appointed to the Russian national ice hockey team for the 1996 World Cup and played eight games. He prepared two goals, but only finished fourth with the team at the end of the tournament.
