Drew Bagnall (born October 26, 1983 in Oakbank , Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The defender, who only played eight seasons in professional ice hockey, only made two appearances in the National Hockey League for the Minnesota Wild and instead played over 500 games in the American Hockey League .
Career
Drew Bagnall first played from 2000 to 2003 for the Battlefords North Stars in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . Subsequently, the defender was selected in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round at a total of 195th position by the Dallas Stars . The Canadian decided to study at St. Lawrence University and went on the ice in the following four seasons for their ice hockey team in the university and college sports league ECAC Hockey . In March 2004, the Dallas Stars gave his rights, together with a second-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 2004 to the Florida Panthers off to Valeri Bure to acquire. The 2006/07 season, his last at St. Lawrence University, was the most successful for Bagnall. Among other things, he was voted into the League's First All-Star Team and named Player of the Year. This led to the Los Angeles Kings submitting him a contract offer, with the Canadian signing a contract in August 2007. His first season in the organization of the Kings he spent with the Reading Royals in the ECHL and the Manchester Monarchs in the American Hockey League . In the 2008/09 season , the defensive player made his breakthrough in the AHL when he became a regular with the Monarchs.
In the following season he worked as their team captain and led the team up to the Conference Finals, in which the team was defeated by the later Calder Cup winner from Pennsylvania , the Hershey Bears . In early July 2010 he became available as a free agent and on the second day of the free agent period agreed on a contractual relationship with the Minnesota Wild . The defender spent his first season in the organization of the game mainly in the farm team at the Houston Eros in the AHL, where Bagnall quickly established himself as a top performer and reached the final series of the Calder Cup with the team in the 2010/11 season . On April 8, 2011, he made his debut in the National Hockey League when Bagnall ran up for the Minnesota Wild in the encounter against the Edmonton Oilers .
In July 2013, he signed a two-year contract with the Buffalo Sabers , which he spent exclusively with the Rochester Americans , but led the team as captain. After the 2014/15 season he ended his active career and attributed this step mainly to increasing physical complaints.
