Brigid Jepcheschir Kosgei , also Brigid Jepchirchir Kosgei (born February 20, 1994 ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specializes in road running.
Career
In 2015, it won the Porto Marathon in 2:47:59 h at its premiere over 42.195 km .
The following year she won the Milan Marathon in 2:27:45 h and came second in the Lisbon Marathon in 2:24:45 h. At the end of the season she won the Honolulu Marathon and the San Silvestre Vallecana .
In 2017 she won the half marathon of the Lake Maggiore Marathon and was eighth in the Boston Marathon . After a victory in the Bogotá half marathon and a third place in the Copenhagen half marathon, she climbed to 2:20:22 h in the Chicago marathon and only had to admit defeat to Tirunesh Dibaba . In Honolulu, she improved Lyubov Denissova's eleven-year-old course record by more than five minutes to 2:22:15 h.
She started the 2018 season with a seventh place in the RAK half marathon . At the London Marathon she finished second behind Vivian Cheruiyot in 2:20:13 hours . She also finished second in the Bogotá Half Marathon and the Great North Run . In October she won the Chicago Marathon in a new personal best of 2:18:35 h. At the end of the season, she won the San Silvestre Vallecana in Madrid for the second time since 2016, setting a new course record with 29:54 minutes.
Kosgei opened the 2019 season in January with a win in the Houston Marathon half marathon . Her winning time of 1:05:50 h was the fastest half marathon time ever run by a woman on US soil. Almost two months later, she won the first Bahrain half marathon in Manama in 1:05:28 h. At the end of April, she won the London Marathon in a fastest time of 2:18:20 hours, almost two minutes ahead of her compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot . After a tactical start, she ran the second half faster than any other marathon runner in 1:06:42 hours . In the further course of the year Kosgei won the Great North Run in 1:04:28 h, on the course that was not suitable for the record she ran 23 seconds faster than world record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei . On October 13, she won the Chicago Marathon in 2:14:04 h and broke Paula Radcliffe's 16-year-old world record (2:15:25 h).
In February 2020 Kosgei stayed in the half marathon in Ra's al-Khaimah with 1:04:49 h, even over this distance, just below the previous world record time (1:04:51 h), but was defeated by Ethiopian Ababel after eleven wins in a row Yeshaneh , who improved the world record to 1:04:31 h.
