London Marathon 2019

The 2019 London Marathon (officially: Virgin Money London Marathon 2019 ) was the 39th edition of the annual running event in London , United Kingdom . The marathon took place on April 28, 2019. It was the sixth run of the World Marathon Major 2018/19 and had the gold label of the IAAF Label Road Races 2019 .

In the men’s race, Eliud Kipchoge , who was successful for the fourth time in London, broke his own course record in 2:02:37 hours, while Brigid Kosgei won the women’s race in 2:18:20 hours by almost two minutes.

According to the organizers, the race recorded a record number of participants with 42,549 finishers.

Race course

The women's elite field, which started 40 minutes earlier, at temperatures around 10 ° C , did not initially follow the three pacemakers (including half-marathon world record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei ), only the 42-year-old Australian Sinead Diver took up the chase and had 1: 11:22 h still has a lead of 16 seconds on the group following her. On the men's side, the group of favorites followed the pacemakers and after 10 kilometers (29:01 min) and at the half marathon mark (1:01:37 h) were in the regions of the course record held by Eliud Kipchoge (2:03:05 h) . After kilometer 22, the top favorite Kipchoge, who started this time as well, ensured that the group disintegrated at a consistently high speed, and 2017 winner Daniel Wanjiru , ex-world record holder Wilson Kipsang , vice world champion Tamirat Tola and British multiple Olympic champion Mo Farah did not more could follow. In 5th place, Farah missed his own European record by 28 seconds in 2:05:39, two positions behind his training partner Bashir Abdi with a Belgian national record of 2:07:03 h. The Italian Yassine Rachik , who was ninth in 2:08:05 h, was followed by Briton Callum Hawkins in tenth with a Scottish record (2:08:14 h).
