Yassine Rachik (born June 11, 1993 in Aïn Sebaâ , Casablanca ) is an Italian athlete of Moroccan origin who specializes in long distance distances.

Life

Yassine Rachik was born in the Moroccan metropolis of Casablanca. First he practiced karate and came to Italy in 2004, where he grew up with three brothers in Castelli Calepio . He has been an Italian citizen since 2015 and has competed for Italy on an international level since then.

Athletic career

In 2015 he took part in international championships for the first time. At the U23 European Championships in Tallinn , he competed over the 5000 meter as well as the 10,000 meter distance. In the latter race he won the bronze medal. Two days later, he came in eighth over half the distance. After a few years in which he took part in races of various distances, including in his Italian homeland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and China, he entered the 2018 European Championships in Berlin over the marathon distance. In the individual standings, he finished third with a time of 2:12:09 h, around three minutes behind winner Koen Naert from Belgium. In the unofficial team classification, the so-called Marathon Cup , he was the fastest team with his compatriots Eyob Ghebrehiwet Faniel and Stefano La Rosa in 6:40:48 h. They improved the Russian team's record of the 2014 European Championships in Zurich by around six minutes.

On April 28, 2019, he ran a new personal best in the London Marathon in 2:08:05 h, which earned him ninth place there. In the marathon at the World Championships in Doha, he finished 12th in 2:12:41 h.
