Joyciline Jepkosgei (born December 8, 1993 ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner . She was the world record holder in the half marathon until February 2020 .

Athletic career

Jepkosgei has appeared internationally since 2016 when she won the Karlovy Vary half marathon in a track record time of 1:09:07 hours. At the African Championships in Durban she was third in the 10,000 meter run . She also took second place at the Prague Grand Prix that year and won the Marseille - Cassis road race .

In February 2017, Jepkoskei increased her personal best at the RAK half marathon to 1:06:08 hours and thus finished third. On April 1, 2017, she won the Prague half marathon in a world record time of 1:04:52 hours and improved the previous record of her compatriot Peres Jepchirchir by 14 seconds. In addition, she beat the existing world records over these distances with her intermediate times of 10 kilometers (30:05 minutes), 15 kilometers (45:37 minutes) and 20 kilometers (1:01:25 hours). Three weeks later she won the Gifu Seiryu Half Marathon and improved the course record there to 1:07:44 hours. On September 9th she won the Grand Prix of Prague over 10 km. With her winning time of 29:43 min she clearly undercut her record from the spring and at the same time achieved her fifth world record of the season. At the Valencia Half Marathon on October 22nd, she improved her half marathon world record by one second to 1:04:51 h.

Jepkosgei opened the 2018 season with a fifth place in 1:06:46 h in the RAK half marathon. At the Half Marathon World Championships in Valencia , she finished second in 1:06:54 h behind the Ethiopian Netsanet Gudeta and led the Kenyan team to the silver medal in the team classification. At the Great North Run in September, she finished third in 1:08:10 h. In October, she finished second in the Delhi half marathon in 1:06:56 h.

In March 2019, Jepkosgei won the New York City Half Marathon in 1:10:07 h. In April she canceled her participation in the Hamburg Marathon at short notice and instead started as a pacemaker at the London Marathon. She made her actual debut on the marathon distance in November at the New York City Marathon , which she won in 2:22:38 h.
