2017 Chicago Marathon

The 2017 Chicago Marathon (officially: Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2017 ) was the 40th edition of the annual running event in Chicago , United States . The marathon took place on October 8, 2017. It was the third run of the World Marathon Majors 2017/18 and had the gold label of the IAAF Road Race Label Events 2017 .

In the men's category, Galen Rupp from the United States won with a personal best of 2:09:20 hours ahead of defending champion Abel Kirui from Kenya. It was the first victory of a native American in Chicago since Greg Meyer in 1982. In the women's category, the Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba won by a clear margin of 2:18:31 hours. A total of 44,349 runners (22,824 men and 21,525 women) crossed the finish line in the 2017 Chicago Marathon.
