NGC 1168 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Aries north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 342 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light-years across. Together with NGC 1166 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair KPG 85 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2001dw was observed here.
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on October 1, 1864 .
