NGC 1160 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 118 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across. Together with NGC 1161 , it forms the isolated pair of galaxies KPG 86 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 274 and IC 275 .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on October 7, 1784 .
