NGC 1139 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 469 million light years from the Milky Way and about 165,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 268 , IC 269 , IC 270 , IC 272 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2000dp was observed here.
The object was discovered by Francis Leavenworth on January 1, 1886 .
