NGC 1181 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is estimated to be 419 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 1172 , NGC 1180 , NGC 1188 , NGC 1189 , among others .

The object was discovered on December 31, 1885 by the American astronomer Francis Preserved Leavenworth .
