NGC 1194 is a lens-shaped galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 182 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1211 and IC 283 .
The object was discovered on November 23, 1883 by the astronomer Édouard Stephan .
