NGC 1171 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Scd in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 128 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 1186 and IC 284 , it forms the NGC 1186 group .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1159 , NGC 1164 , NGC 1174 .

The object was discovered on December 4, 1880 by Édouard Stephan .
