NGC 1175 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is an estimated 252 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter. It probably forms a bound galaxy pair with NGC 1177 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1174 and IC 284 .
The object was discovered on October 24, 1786 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel .
