NGC 1192 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E5 in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky , the 427 million estimated light years from the Milky Way 's center.
Together with NGC 1189 , NGC 1190 , NGC 1191 and NGC 1199, it forms the Hickson Compact Group 22 (HCG 22).
The object was discovered on December 2, 1885 by the American astronomer Francis Leavenworth .
