NGC 1166 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in the constellation Aries north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 345 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light-years across. Together with NGC 1168 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair KPG 85 .
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on October 1, 1864 .
