Susan Chepkemei (born June 25, 1975 in Komol , West Pokot District , Rift Valley ) is a former Kenyan long distance and cross-country runner who had her greatest successes in the half marathon and marathon .

Career

In 1998 she immediately came second in the Berlin Marathon . In the following year she took the same place in the Rotterdam marathon , won the Paderborn Easter run in the half marathon distance and set the still valid course record of 1:24:29 h in the 25 km from Berlin .

In 2000 she was third at the World Cross Country Championships in Vilamoura and second at the World Half Marathon Championships in Veracruz (the same place she took in this competition in the two following years).

In 2001 she won the Rotterdam Marathon and came second in the New York City Marathon . In 2002 she was African champion in the 10,000-meter run and second in the Commonwealth Games over the same distance. Three times in a row, from 2001 to 2003, she won the Tilburg Ladies Run 10K .

In 2004 she fought a thrilling fight with Paula Radcliffe at the New York City Marathon and finished second, just four seconds behind. The following year she was third in the London Marathon and the World Half Marathon Championships in Edmonton and only had to admit defeat Jeļena Prokopčuka at the New York City Marathon .

In 2006, she set her personal best of 2:21:46 h as third in the London Marathon.

Doping ban 2007

In September 2007, Chepkemei tested positive for salbutamol in a doping test and was banned for one year.

Susan Chepkemei is 1.64 meters tall and weighs 48 kg and is the oldest of eight siblings.
