Joyce Chepchumba (born November 6, 1970 in Kericho ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner and Olympic third party.

At the beginning of her international career, she won the Tilburg Ladies Run 10K in 1995 and came fourth in the New York City Marathon . In 1996 she finished second in the London Marathon . She had to abandon the marathon of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, but improved by one place in New York City.

In 1997 she won the London Marathon and the Tokyo International Women's Marathon . In 1998 she won the Chicago Marathon and came third in the London Marathon. The following year she won in London with her personal best of 2:23:22 h and defended her first place in Chicago.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , she then won the bronze medal behind Naoko Takahashi and Lidia Șimon . She also finished third in the London Marathon that year and again won the Tokyo Marathon.

In 2001 she finished third in the London and fourth in the New York City Marathon, which she won the following year. She finished seventh at the 2003 World Athletics Championships , after finishing third in the Boston Marathon earlier that year . In 2004 she finished fifth in London and fourth in Chicago.

She is also successful over the half-marathon distance. In 1999 she won the Great North Run , 1999 and 2001 the Great Scottish Run , from 1998 to 2000 the Altöttinger Half Marathon and from 1999 to 2001 and 2004 the Berlin Half Marathon . From 1999 to 2005 she won the Greifensee run four times , in 2002 with the current course record. In 1997 and 1999 she was fourth at the World Half Marathon Championships .

Chepchumba was looked after by the German manager Volker Wagner . Today she lives in Detmold and in Nakuru . In total, she stayed below the 2:28 hour mark 17 times, more than any other runner. (As of end of 2006)
